Abstract:In the past two decades, thousands of research papers on health benefits of probiotics have been published in relevant scientific journals. With further investigation of their functions, probiotics have exhibited high potential of application in a wide range of health fields consisting more than 10 categeories related with gastrointestine, immunity, metabolism, psychiatry and neurology, premature/ infant, oral cavity, nutritional absorption, skin, liver and gallbladder, urinary and reproductive systems, respiratory tract, kidney, etc. This review is based on the mechanism of probiotics action and health effects, clinical trial evidence, and scientific knowledge on their related functions proposed by authoritative academic institutions. It focuses on the latest scientific evidence on the role of probiotics in weight management, blood lipid regulation, and Helicobacter pylori control, in order to provide theoretical references for the scientific claims and functional evaluation of emerging health functions of probitoics.
